KARACHI(Syed Talat A Shah) The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) announced on Thursday the arrest of a suspect accused of attempting to secure a U.S. visa using counterfeit government and medical documents. The arrest followed a targeted operation by the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) in Karachi, prompted by a formal complaint from the U.S. Consulate.
Identified as Muhammad Ibrahim, the suspect was apprehended outside the U.S. Consulate office in Karachi. According to the FIA, Ibrahim allegedly submitted a fabricated medical report and a fraudulent confirmation letter purportedly from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support his visa application.
“The suspect attempted to mislead U.S. authorities with falsified paperwork,”FIA. “Initial investigations reveal he forged both a Foreign Ministry note and a medical certificate to justify his visa request.”
The operation underscores ongoing collaboration between Pakistani agencies and foreign diplomatic missions to combat document fraud and human trafficking. The U.S. Consulate in Karachi flagged the discrepancies in Ibrahim’s application, triggering the FIA’s intervention.
Authorities confirmed that Ibrahim is in custody, and a broader probe is underway to determine whether he operated independently or as part of a larger network. The FIA did not disclose further details but emphasized its commitment to pursuing legal action against individuals involved in forgery and immigration fraud.
Visa fraud remains a significant challenge in Pakistan, with forged documents often used to bypass stringent immigration requirements. The FIA has ramped up operations against human trafficking syndicates in recent months, resulting in multiple high-profile arrests.
This case marks the latest in a series of crackdowns by the AHTC, which has prioritized disrupting illicit immigration pipelines. Investigations into Ibrahim’s activities continue, with officials urging the public to report suspicious schemes to authorities.
