US Cracks Down on Travel Companies Aiding Irregular Migration

DP News Exclusive– The United States announced today a significant expansion of its visa restrictions program targeting executives who profit from facilitating irregular migration.

The move, implemented under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, broadens the scope beyond transportation companies to now encompass travel agencies and tour operators. These entities will face scrutiny if their services are found to be designed primarily for individuals seeking to enter the U.S. illegally.

“No one should profit from vulnerable migrants,” Matthew Miller, Department Spokesperson. This expansion builds upon previous actions taken in February and November 2023, which targeted executives in the transportation sector – land, sea, and charter air.

The expanded policy aims to disrupt exploitative practices within the travel industry and deter companies from knowingly assisting irregular migration. The U.S. emphasizes collaboration with governments and private entities to eliminate such practices throughout the Western Hemisphere.
