‘Nightingale of Pakistan’ Nayyara Noor remembered

One of Pakistan’s finest songbirds, Nayyara Noor, was membered on Sunday at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) with a soulful event of music here in Karachi.
Dubbed ‘The Nightingale of Pakistan’, she had passed away last month after a brief illness.
Noor became one of Pakistan’s most iconic singers, known for her renditions of work by the revolutionary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
The special event was attended by the late singer’s family, friends and close associates who also shared their memories of her. Nayyara Noor’s son Naad E Ali, budding singer Zara Madani, and young artists paid tribute to the legendary singer by singing her songs.
Author of a musical book, 101 Melody Makers, Mr. Sultan Arshad Khan, who was also Noor’s close associate, remembered her saying that the sheer audacity and purity of Nayyara Noor’s voice was also prominent in her character. She possessed a heavenly voice, he said.
Mr. Arshad Mehmood, the former Director of Programs at NAPA and a famous musician himself who was the composer of many songs sung by Nayyara Noor said Nayyara made even the ordinary tunes heavenly.
The late singer’s spouse and well-known actor Shehryar Zaidi said that Nayyara was as complete and good a singer as she was a complete spouse.
