Director General Inter-Services Public Relations, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has said India is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan, while the Afghan Taliban regime is acting as a proxy. In an interview with Reuters, he said the prime contractor in the case of Pakistan is India, while the proxies are the TTP and BLA. He also mentioned the presence of ETIM, IMU, Al-Qaeda and ISKP in Afghanistan. Replying to a question, the DG ISPR said Afghanistan is still being run by a non-state actor and described it as a regime rather than a state. He said Pakistan is concerned over the use of non-state actors, militias, mercenaries and armed groups for achieving objectives. He said since the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan, multiple agencies and proxies have taken roots there. The Director General said Pakistan is also engaging with Afghanistan and only asks it not to support terrorism inside Pakistan and to stop harbouring terrorist leaders. He said Noor Wali Kharji, Bashir Zeb of BLA and Gul Bahadur have been given refuge by the Afghan Taliban regime. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said terrorist formations enter Pakistan from Afghanistan and are also provided weapons from there. He warned that if the Afghan Taliban regime does not listen to Pakistan’s concerns regarding terrorism, it will have to pay a serious price. The DG ISPR said the Afghan Taliban regime has no credibility at the international level. He urged the international community to compel the Afghan regime to behave like a normal state and stop the cultivation and production of drugs. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan’s armed forces are fully capable of countering all threats from the Afghan regime, including those involving drones.
