Fingerprints Blow the Hell Out of Alleged Immigration Fraud Scheme

WASHINGTON (Syed) He allegedly tried to work the immigration system, switch identities, and slip through the cracks. Then his own fingerprints blew the whole damn thing wide open.

Sixty-five-year-old Murtaza Ali, a Pakistan native, allegedly filed immigration-benefit applications under multiple identities before eventually becoming a U.S. citizen under the alias “Muhammad Iqbal.”

But the identity game hit a brick wall: his fingerprints.

You can change a name. You can change an application. You can try to bury one identity under another.

But you can’t bullshit a fingerprint match.

In 2014, Ali pleaded guilty and admitted that he had filed three separate immigration-benefit applications using three different identities.

That’s not one paperwork screw-up. That’s three identities tied to one man.

Fingerprint analysis reportedly connected those identities, ripping the cover off the alleged scheme and putting the case squarely in the government’s sights.

Now authorities are pursuing a four-count denaturalization action against Ali, seeking to undo his U.S. naturalization based on the alleged fraud.

Three identities. Multiple applications. One set of fingerprints.

He allegedly tried to play the system.

The system played him right back.

The aliases couldn’t save him. The paperwork couldn’t save him. And the fingerprints didn’t keep their mouths shut.

Bottom line: he could change the name on the file ,but he couldn’t change the man attached to the fingerprints.
