Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to digitize the oil and gas supply chain, from imports to end use by consumers, on a priority basis. He was chairing a meeting on the matters related to Petroleum Division in Islamabad today. The Prime Minister said digitization of the oil and gas transportation and supply chain would help prevent smuggling of these products and bring benefits to the national exchequer. He further emphasized that the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the country should be among top national priorities in order to save valuable foreign exchange spent on the import of petroleum products. The meeting was briefed on the roadmap of the petroleum and gas sector. It was informed that the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has discovered large oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block in Kohat district. The Prime Minister congratulated the nation on the discovery of major oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block and appreciated the performance of the concerned institutions. The meeting was told that these reserves would produce about 4,100 barrels of oil per day. It was apprised that during the current winter season, domestic consumers are being supplied gas with better pressure compared to last year. It was also informed that work on RLNG connections is progressing rapidly and the target of 350,000 connections will be achieved by June this year. The meeting was told that pipelines for the Shewa Gas Field and Bettani Gas Field have been commissioned, while work on the pipeline from the Kot Palak Gas Field is in progress.
