Shehbaz Sharif Lauds FBR’s Progress in Expanding Tax Base to Record Levels

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has commended the Federal Board of Revenue for collecting a record 5.9 million tax returns in the current year.In a statement today, the Prime Minister thanked the public for showing responsibility in filing tax returns. He said inclusion of 900,000 new filers into the tax net reflects the public’s trust in the government’s policies, for which we are grateful. The Prime Minister said reforms in taxation system are generating positive results. Detailing the different measures by government, he said tax returns have been made easy. … The Prime Minister said he has personally supervised the digitization of FBR by chairing every meeting weekly. He mentioned that automated clearance system at ports helped curtail corruption and improve performance.                                            He said sales tax evasion has been prevented by increasing the number of sale points to suppress informal economy. The Prime Minister said increase in tax revenue by 9 billion rupees as compared to last year is a proof of effective FBR reforms. He said further reforms in the FBR system are being made as the government is working tirelessly to completely eliminate corruption and informal economy.
