Bilawal urges agri emergency, calls for global support

PPP Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged the government to immediately impose agriculture emergency in flood-affected areas of the country, waiving electricity bills of the affectees. Talking to media med after his visit to flood-hit areas in Muzaffargarh on Monday, Bilawal Bhutto said “I hope the prime minister will ponder over rehabilitation of the flood-stricken people on emergency basis. The PPP chief said the government should immediately approach the United Nations and the foreign minister should formally launch an international appeal for assistance as Pakistan is hit by devastating floods. “This is not a time to do politics, rather it is time to close ranks,” he added. Bilawal also urged the government to arrange relief on seeds and fertilizers for farmers. “Government should immediately provide assistance to flood affectees through Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as was done in the past in the times of disasters,” he added. Bilawal said the federal government should work in tandem with provinces for the rehabilitation of flood affectees.
