Nation can’t tolerate May 9 like incidents: COAS Munir

Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir on Thursday expressing his resolve to bring the elements behind May 9 arson and vandalism attacks to justice, reiterated that the entire nation would not let such ‘barbaric incidents’ happen in future.
The army chief said this while addressing the relatives of the martyred personnel of Islamabad police. He was on a visit to the Islamabad Police Lines.
COAS Munir said the sacrifices of those martyrs, who have been granted immortality by God, cannot be disregarded.
No sacrifices will be avoided for the sake of the country’s dignity and respect, Gen Munir said, adding the Pakistani nation stood by and will keep standing with the relatives of the martyrs.
The army chief’s visit to the Police Lines comes, as the nation unites today to observe ‘Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan (Day of Honouring the Martyrs of Pakistan)’, dedicated to the brave heroes who laid down their lives for the defense and prosperity of the country.
The solemn occasion is marked with various events with the main ceremony at Pakistan Army General Headquarters (GHQ).
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir Thursday had an informal meeting with the school students and children of martyrs present on the occasion of Pakistan Martyrs’ Day – which was held at the Pakistan Military’s General Headquarters (GHQ).
General Asim Munir said that Pakistan Army was the heir of all children of martyrs, stating that the relation with them is ‘exemplary and long-lasting’.
“Pakistan Army will stand united with you,” said COAS to the kids of the martyrs.
Army Chief also visited the martyrs’ monument, laid floral wreath and offered fateha.
President Dr Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Alvi in their messages on the occasion of Yaum-e-Takreem-e-Shuhada-e-Pakistan have paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Pakistan, who rendered ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty for ensuring integrity, sovereignty and honour of the nation and the motherland.
The President in his message said the entire nation is proud of its valiant martyrs who displayed the spirit of patriotism and fearlessness in testing times throughout the history.
The Prime Minister in a tweet urged people, including the children, to visit monuments and graves of martyrs and shower flowers on them as a sign of affection and respect. He said we should show to the world that we are the nation that holds its Shuhada in veneration and affection.
