Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed an agreement to enhance the bilateral trade to two hundred million dollars in the next two years. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic signed the document in Bishkek today. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov witnessed the signing and exchange of the agreement. Later talking to the media, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan need to take concrete steps to translate their strong and fraternal relations into enhanced bilateral trade. He said the two sides held very productive meetings and discussed a number of important issues. The Prime Minister noted that the current volume of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan stands at only sixteen million US dollars, which is very small compared to the strength of their bilateral and fraternal relations. Shehbaz Sharif said he proposed setting a target to increase bilateral trade from sixteen million to two hundred million dollars in the next two years. He said he further suggested that, instead of merely signing a Memorandum of Understanding, the two sides should conclude a formal agreement as a concrete and practical step towards achieving the trade target. He said while they were on their way to lunch, he discussed the proposal with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and requested him to give special attention to the matter. The Prime Minister said President Japarov accepted his proposal, following which the two sides signed the agreement at the airport. He expressed his deep gratitude to President Japarov for accepting the proposal and extending his cooperation in this regard.
