Iran has confirmed receiving proposals from “certain” mediators aimed at preventing further escalation of tensions with the United States, vowing to spare no effort to stop US crimes against the country. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said during his weekly press briefing on Monday that mediators are actively striving to prevent further escalation and have conveyed proposals to Tehran, but he did not give further details. He added that while Iran’s armed forces continue to respond “firmly and decisively” to the source of the US aggression, the country’s diplomatic apparatus is fully aware of its duties and spares no effort to fulfill them. The Iranian spokesperson emphasized that the diplomatic apparatus remains fully aligned with the armed forces and continues to pursue its duties in defending the country’s interests. The United States has perpetrated numerous violations against Iranian territory since April 7, when US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire in the latest bout of wholesale American-Israeli aggression targeting the Islamic Republic. The violations continued even after Washington and Tehran signed a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding in June, whose first clause clearly mandates cessation of aggression on all fronts. Baghaei’s confirmation follows reports that Qatar has floated a 10-day ceasefire plan between Iran and the US following Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent visit to Doha. Baghaei said Iran has never been the first party to breach the war-ending MoU, however, Washington’s breaches of its commitments prompted Tehran’s reciprocal response. He added that Iran has been pursuing a clear stance on the Islamabad memorandum since its signing. “Commitment for commitment. As long as the other side fulfilled its commitments, we also remained committed to ours. We have never been the initiator of any breach of an agreement,” the Iranian spokesperson emphasized. He noted that when the other side began breaching its obligations one after another, Iran made clear that it would likewise refrain from implementing its own commitments. Baghaei reiterated that an “agreement or understanding only remains valuable and valid as long as all parties adhere to their obligations. Otherwise, it is nothing more than words on paper.” Elsewhere in the presser, Baghaei criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for remaining silent on a US attack on the construction site of the Darkhoveyn nuclear power plant in Iran’s Khuzestan Province, saying it debunked Washington’s claims of concern over Tehran’s nuclear program. He said the IAEA’s silence and indifference regarding the US attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites, including the Darkhoveyn facility, “will certainly fail to boost our trust in the agency.” “The agency’s failure to take a position will not change the fundamental issue, that is, attacking the peaceful nuclear facilities of a country is absolutely against all international rules,” the spokesman added. The attack on the Darkhoveyn facility, which was under the IAEA supervision and was intended for energy production purposes, exposed that the US is opposed to Iran’s industry, economic prosperity, and the welfare of its people and “all other claims are merely pretexts.” The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said in a statement on Sunday that the “terrorist” US attack on the Darkhoveyn nuclear power plant occurred at around 3:39 a.m. local time, when the United States launched “a number of projectiles” at the site under construction. In a post on X on Sunday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran will take “appropriate” measures to defend its national interests and security following the US attack on the Darkhoveyn nuclear power plant. Baghaei further warned the United States that it would face consequences for any act of “adventurism” that would target Iran’s southern Kharg Island, responding to threats by US President Donald Trump concerning the possibility of seizing the strategic island. “They will face the consequences,” he said without elaborating on the nature of Iran’s potential response. “There are people in those same areas, and their number is not small, who are counting the moment to welcome these individuals,” the spokesman added.
