CDA to Install Electric Vehicle Charging Points Across Islamabad on Mohsin Naqvi’s Instructions

On the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated work to install electric vehicle (EV) charging points across Islamabad. Comprehensive EV Policy in the Works According to officials, the CDA will first formulate a comprehensive policy governing the establishment and operation of electric charging stations in the federal capital. Once approved, charging infrastructure will be rolled out in phases. Charging points are planned to be installed outside parking plazas, commercial centers, and residential buildings to facilitate the growing number of electric vehicle users. Mandatory Installation at Petrol Pumps As part of the initial phase, the CDA has issued notices directing all petrol pumps in Islamabad to install electric charging booths. Authorities say the move is aimed at ensuring safety and accessibility, allowing EV users to recharge vehicles at established fuel stations. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the regular construction and operation of charging stations have also been finalised. Future Building Designs to Include EV Charging Officials revealed that a proposal is under consideration to make EV charging stations mandatory in the design of all future building projects in Islamabad, aligning the capital with global sustainability and green energy trends. The initiative marks a significant step toward promoting clean energy transportation and reducing carbon emissions in the federal capital.
