A petition has been filed in the Federal Constitutional Court seeking to declare the appointment of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly null and void. The petition was submitted by Akbar S. Babar, through his counsel Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, on Monday. According to the plea, Achakzai’s appointment was made through what the petitioner described as an unlawful process. It argues that the Speaker of the National Assembly was obligated to verify the legality of the procedure before issuing the notification. The petitioner has requested the court to declare the appointment invalid and to suspend the notification until a final verdict is announced. The matter is expected to be taken up by the court for further proceedings.
