Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said providing Pakistani youth with international-standard education and training in the IT sector is among the government’s top priorities.He was speaking during a meeting with the parents of late IT expert Arfa Karim Randhawa, Samina Amjad and Amjad Karim Randhawa, along with Chief Executive of the Arfa Karim Foundation Tabinda Islam in Lahore today. The Prime Minister paid rich tribute to Arfa Karim for her remarkable services in the IT sector at a very young age and for bringing laurels to Pakistan at the international level. He said in recognition of her lasting contributions to the IT sector, the IT Tower in Lahore has been named after her and is now known as the Arfa Karim Tower. Shehbaz Sharif further said the government is making concerted efforts to transform Pakistan into a regional hub for information technology. He added that youth are being encouraged to acquire IT education and training, while entrepreneurship in the IT sector is also being actively promoted. The Prime Minister further said the federal government is distributing laptops among high-performing male and female students this year as well to support their academic pursuits. Welcoming the establishment of the Arfa Karim Foundation for the promotion of IT development, he assured that all possible support would be provided at the government level. The parents of late Arfa Karim appreciated the government’s initiatives for the development of the IT sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
