A delegation of senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders met National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Islamabad on Friday, seeking his assistance in arranging a meeting with jailed party chairman Imran Khan. The PTI leaders also raised concerns about delays in notifying the leaders of the Opposition in both the Senate and the National Assembly. Speaker Sadiq responded that if PTI provides the name of an alternate leader, it would be considered. According to sources, the delegation emphasized that they had been unable to meet Imran Khan in prison and requested the Speaker’s office to facilitate the meeting. Sadiq assured them that he would play a role and asked for time until Monday to follow up. Regarding the notification of Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as leaders of the Opposition in both houses, Sadiq reportedly said the process could not proceed due to legal complications. Upon which, the PTI leaders said for deciding on giving alternate names for the Senate and National Assembly posts they would like to consult the party founder. “Without meeting Imran Khan, they cannot give new names,” the sources quoted the PTI leaders as saying.
