The Senate today passed the Constitution (Twenty-seventh Amendment) Bill, 2025 as passed with amendments by the National Assembly.Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar laid the Bill before the House. Sixty-four members voted in favour of the Bill, which is not less than the two-thirds of the total membership of the House. Speaking in the House, Leader of the House and Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar thanked all Senators who voted in favour of the Bill. He said it is a historic day as the process of 27th Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan has been completed in accordance with law and the Constitution. Earlier, briefing the House about the salient features and amendments made in the Bill, the Minister for Law and Justice said the position of Chief of Justice of Pakistan has been clearly defined. He explained that the incumbent Chief Justice of Pakistan will continue to hold his office. Afterwards, among the Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Federal Constitutional Court, the one who will be senior will be the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The Minister said word ‘Federal Constitutional Court’ has been inserted in clause 2 (A) of Article 6 which states that no act of high treason shall be validated by any court of the country.
