Iran has offered to mediate between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban in an effort to ease tensions and encourage dialogue between the two neighbours. According to diplomatic sources, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, during which he expressed concern over the growing strain in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. Araqchi urged both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue, emphasising that peace and stability in the region depended on cooperation between Islamabad and Kabul. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar briefed his Iranian counterpart on Pakistan’s recent engagements with Afghan officials and the overall regional situation. Diplomatic sources said Araqchi highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, noting that all three countries shared common interests in maintaining regional stability and economic development. Both leaders also reviewed bilateral relations and discussed broader regional and international issues. The Iranian foreign minister reaffirmed Tehran’s willingness to assist in efforts aimed at promoting peace and reconciliation, saying Iran remained committed to playing a constructive role in easing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized that maintaining regional peace and stability was of utmost importance. Both sides agreed to continue close contact and consultation on the matter, the sources added.
