The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Chaudhry Yasin as its candidate for the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), A no-confidence motion against the incumbent AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq is expected to be submitted tomorrow. The PPP’s central leadership has unanimously endorsed Chaudhry Yasin as its nominee for the new Leader of the House, party sources said. Under the constitution, the name of the proposed prime minister must be submitted along with the no-confidence motion. Earlier reports suggested that the motion would be tabled after a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to finalise the political strategy. According to the sources, the PPP will move a no-confidence motion against incumbent premier Anwar-ul-Haq in the AJK Assembly Secretariat on Thursday. The sources said that lawmakers from both the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have signed the motion. However, reports suggest that the PPP and the PML-N have yet to reach a complete understanding on the post-motion arrangement. The PML-N has demanded that if the no-confidence motion succeeds, the assembly should be dissolved and fresh elections called soon after the formation of a new government. Meanwhile, incumbent Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq has decided to resist the moves to replace him, is planning to file a reference against defecting lawmakers. Political analysts say that once the motion is submitted, the AJK Assembly is likely to enter a new phase of political realignment, with potential implications for the region’s future political landscape.
