Trump pledges economic, trade cooperation with Pakistan: PM Shehbaz Sharif

He said that the US President has assured him of advancing bilateral economic cooperation. He said that President Trump played a crucial role in defusing tensions with India and warned that if the US President had not brokered a truce, the consequences between the two nuclear powers could have been catastrophic. PM Shehbaz Sharif further disclosed that President Trump had been informed about his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. Turning to Saudi Arabia, PM Shehbaz announced that Pakistan and Riyadh had signed a historic defence agreement, clarifying that the pact was not directed against any country. “Pakistan is not part of any arms race,” he said, adding that he was grateful to the Saudi Crown Prince for the warm reception accorded in Riyadh. He highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, built on decades of sincerity and trust. He said this agreement has now formalised this enduring partnership. The Prime Minister further explained that under the agreement, an attack on one country will be considered an attack on the other. In such a case, both countries will respond to any aggression through mutual consultation. On terrorism, Shehbaz Sharif said that, unfortunately, militants had been allowed to return some time ago but assured that Pakistan’s security forces were actively engaged against BLA, Khawarij, and other terrorist organisations and would ensure their complete elimination. Referring to Marka-e-Haq, the Prime Minister said Pakistan taught such a lesson to India that it will remember for life. He asserted that Pakistan had inflicted a decisive defeat on India in the battle for truth. On the Middle East issue, PM Shehbaz highlighted that the UN session on Gaza was a major development, expressing hope that the initiative would soon yield positive results. He stressed that the atrocities in Gaza, ongoing since 2023, must come to an end. He confirmed that Pakistan had raised the Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly with full clarity. The Prime Minister also said that climate change had caused devastating floods across the country. Referring to the country’s immense natural resources, he said friendly countries are ready to extend full support to Pakistan in harnessing them.
