The Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) Division Bench on Thursday restored Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman by suspending the earlier ruling of a single bench that had declared his appointment void. the order was issued by Justice Muhammad Asif and Justice Inam Amin Minhas during the hearing of an intra-court appeal. During proceedings, Justice Inam Amin Minhas questioned how the PTA was an affected party. Counsel for the PTA responded that the court had struck down the post of Member Administration, created through legislation, which in turn disrupted the entire organisational structure of the Authority. The PTA lawyer further argued that by declaring the rules void, the functional framework of PTA had been destabilised and that even the Attorney General was not issued a notice under Section 27-A. The PTA lawyer also submitted that multiple objections raised through miscellaneous applications had not been decided upon. Earlier, a single bench led by Justice Babar Sattar had upheld petitions challenging the PTA chairman’s appointment, prompting the intra-court appeal.
