Supreme Court reduces CJP Afridi’s security to curb expenses

The Supreme Court has reduced Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s security detail from eight official vehicles to two, releasing a significant number of personnel for routine policing duties. Announced on Friday, the decision is part of a broader effort to ensure prudent use of public funds and streamline security arrangements in line with official entitlements. The security framework for serving judges has also been revised to make it more rational and consistent with prescribed rules. Similarly, security for retired judges has been adjusted in accordance with established protocols, applicable regulations, and the relevant presidential order that grants lifetime security, reflecting both the sensitivity of their former office and ongoing security concerns. In order to operationalise these security protocols, without conferring any extraordinary benefit, added concession or privilege. A circular has been issued to scale down deployment of force in excess of entitlement, reaffirming compliance with rules, and to facilitate coordination between the Supreme Court. The Ministry of Interior and provincial authorities for implementation.
