Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a comprehensive plan to transform the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) into a shipping company of international standards. He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad today (Thursday) to review the restructuring, reforms, performance, and future strategy for developing PNSC into a world-class shipping enterprise. He highlighted the vast investment potential in Pakistan’s shipping sector and directed the relevant authorities to prepare and present a detailed plan to encourage private sector involvement. He also emphasized the need to promote the use of PNSC vessels on a competitive basis to expand the fleet and enhance cargo transportation within the country. The Prime Minister instructed that industry experts and consultants be engaged to assist in elevating PNSC to global standards. He noted that these reforms will not only reduce the country’s reliance on foreign shipping companies like saving valuable foreign exchange, but also create employment opportunities for local seafarers.
