NIE Pakistan converts 800cc car into electric vehicle

The National Institute of Electronics (NIE), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, has successfully converted an 800cc fuel-powered car into an electric vehicle. The electric car was showcased yesterday at the Allama Iqbal Open University during an expo. It is equipped with a 10-kilowatt motor powered by a battery. The General Director of NIE, Zawar Hussain, revealed that the institute is making continuous efforts to make the car fully operational. Alongside ongoing research, practical initiatives are being taken to advance in the field. On the other hand, Pakistan’s automotive industry, involved in the production and sale of locally assembled cars, is facing significant challenges. The manufacturing sector, particularly in the production of locally assembled vehicles, has experienced a drastic 49 per cent decline in sales over the past seven months. These developments mark a significant step forward in the pursuit of sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions, as the National Institute of Electronics leads the way in converting conventional vehicles into electric ones.
