ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees for December 2023 unveiled

The International Cricket Council (ICC), announced the nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for December 2023 on Monday, featuring Australia’s all-format captain Pat Cummins. He will be competing with Bangladesh spin bowler Taijul Islam and New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips for the coveted award. Pat Cummins earned the nomination after he led Australia from the front to win two Test matches of the three-match series against Pakistan last month, securing the series 2-0. He picked three wickets in the Perth Test, which Australia won by a huge margin of 360 runs, however, he produced a man-of-the-match performance in the Boxing Day Test, claiming a five-wicket haul in both innings. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam won the Player of the Series award for picking 15 wickets during the two-match Test series against New Zealand. He helped his side achieve their maiden Test victory over New Zealand at home in the first Test, where he claimed a ten-fer to thump the visitors by 150 runs. This brilliant match-winning performance was followed by five wickets in a losing cause in the second Test. New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips proved his mettle as an all-rounder during the aforementioned Tes series against Bangladesh. He made his comeback to the Test team after almost a four-year hiatus and made an immediate impact with a 42-run knock and four wickets in the first innings of their maiden Test loss in Bangladesh. However, he played the leading role in New Zealand’s comeback victory in the second Test to level the series, earning a player of the match award. Phillips returned with 3-31, followed by a solid 87 off 72 during New Zealand’s first innings, where they were bowled out for 180. In the second innings, he scored an unbeaten 40 to help his side chase 137.
