TOR problem: Govt, opposition agree on 4-point preamble

The 12-member parliamentary committee comprising members of the federal government and opposition have agreed on a 4-point preamble to finalise phrases of reference (TORs) for the judicial committee to probe Panama Papers allegations.

The parliamentary committee’s assembly continued for 3 hours on the Parliament Home in the present day .

Talking to reporters after the assembly, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar mentioned the opposition members supplied 4 preliminary factors whereas three factors have been tabled by the federal government representatives. Later, either side agreed on a 4-point preamble.

Subsequent assembly of the committee will start at 11:00 am on Friday to seek the advice of TORs, he mentioned.

The minister acknowledged that dialogue with the opposition members was held in a nice environment and hopefully the matter shall be resolved amicably.

To a query relating to battle over Regulation Minister Zahid Hamid’s inclusion within the committee, Dar mentioned the Regulation Minister has been included as an ex officio member.

He can’t forged any vote within the committee. If opposition has any objection, the federal government will look into the matter.
