Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq on Sunday announced that a nationwide strike would be observed on September 2 against the inflated electricity bills. Speaking at a public rally in Lahore, he announced that peaceful protests would be held outside WAPDA offices across the country. He said that \u201cthe 224 million Pakistanis are not slaves of the IMF. We won\u2019t tolerate further oppression and injustice. We have endured a lot.\u201d \u201cThe nation stands united for its rights and the Islamic democratic revolution is our destination,\u201d he added. Protests also erupted across multiple cities on Sunday as citizens voiced their discontent over the escalating cost of electricity. The protesters carrying placards chanted slogans against the government. They urged the government to do away with extra taxes and give relief to the masses already reeling under super inflation.
