DG ISPR Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry insisted that propaganda is being done against the armed forces for political purposes, and questioned when those who carried out this heinous act will be brought to justice. Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said several evidences have been gathered so far. During the press conference, Maj-Gen Sharif revealed that the army had completed its process of \u201cself-accountability\u201d, saying that two comprehensive inquiries \u2014 led by major generals \u2014 were conducted into violent events that took place at army garrisons on May 9. \u201cAfter a deliberate accountability process, keeping the requests of in-court of inquiries in view, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against those who failed to keep the security and honour of garrisons, military installations, Jinnah House and General Headquarters intact. \u201cThree officers, including a lieutenant-general, have been removed from their jobs. Strict disciplinary proceedings against officers, including three major generals and seven brigadiers, have been completed,\u201d he added. The DG ISPR said that these penalties showed that accountability in the Pakistan Army was carried out with discrimination, irrespective of rank or social status. \u201cAs of now, a granddaughter of a retired four-star general, son-in-law of a retired four-star star general, wife of a retired three-star general, and wife and son-in-law of a retired two-star general are facing this process of accountability due to irrefutable evidence.\u201d Talking about trials under the Army Act, Maj-Gen Sharif said standing military courts were functioning in which \u201ctrial of 102 miscreants is underway and this process will continue\u201d. The extremist elements of May 9 did what the enemy could not do. The May 9 incident was a conspiracy against Pakistan, he added. As per preliminary investigation, the military\u2019s spokesperson said, the May 9 violence was being planned for months. First, people\u2019s emotions were aroused. Brains were then washed through extremist narratives from within the country and outside, he claimed, adding terrorists are being neutralized on a daily basis. The ISPR DG said there is strong resentment within the armed forces over the May 9 incidents.
