According to Russian media, addressing the nation on Saturday, Putin said the Russian Armed Forces have been given orders to \u201cneutralise those who organised the armed rebellion.\u201d Vladimir Putin has addressed the nation, after Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin called for armed rebellion and reached a key Russian city with his troops. Any unrest in the country is a \u201cmortal threat,\u201d he said, adding that Moscow’s actions will be \u201ctough.\u201d \u201cWe will not let a civil war happen again and we will protect our people and statehood,\u201d Putin said. He hailed Wagner fighters in Ukraine, calling them “heroes.” Putin added that the mutiny amounted to \u201ca deadly threat to our statehood\u201d and vowed \u201ctough actions\u201d in response. \u201cAll those who prepared the rebellion will suffer inevitable punishment. The armed forces and other government agencies have received the necessary orders,\u201d he said. He called Prigozhin\u2019s actions, without referring to the owner of the Wagner private military company by name, \u201ca betrayal\u201d and \u201ca treason.” Putin urged \u201cthose who are being dragged into this crime not to make a fatal and tragic, unique mistake, to make the only right choice \u2014 to stop participating in criminal acts.\u201d Putin condemned the rebellion at a time when Russia was \u201cfighting the toughest battle for its future\u201d with its war in Ukraine. \u201cThe entire military, economic and information machine of the West is waged against us,\u201d Putin said. \u201cThis battle, when the fate of our people is being decided, requires the unification of all forces, unity, consolidation and responsibility.\u201d An armed rebellion at a time like this is \u201ca blow to Russia, to its people,\u201d the president said. \u201cThose who plotted and organised an armed rebellion, who raised arms against his comrades-in-arms, betrayed Russia.
