An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in the federal capital on Tuesday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in eight different cases till June 8.
\nChairman PTI Imran Khan\u00a0and Bushra Bibi reached the Islamabad judicial complex, ahead of the former’s appearance before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at its Rawalpindi office in the \u00a3190 million settlement case.
\nThe two first appeared before the accountability court to seek a protective bail for the former first lady, whose bail in the graft case expired today (May 23), to avoid her arrest in the \u00a3190 million graft case.
\nJudge Muhammad Bashir approved Bushra Bibi’s bail till May 31 against surety bonds worth Rs500,000. He also took her signatures to ensure the submission of surety bonds, before issuing a notice to the investigation officer (IO).
\nLater, the Khan and Bushra Bibi went to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) \u2014 housed in the same judicial complex as the accountability court \u2014 where the former premier’s lawyer filed a plea for his bail.
\nAfter the ATC approved the bail, the PTI chief and his wife left the judicial complex. Khan is now headed to NAB’s Rawalpindi office for an appearance in the multi-billion pounds graft case.
\nHe had left for the federal capital earlier this morning with his wife. A legal team comprising Salman Safdar, Khawaja Haris, Intezar Panjotha, Gohar Ali Khan and Ali Aijaz is accompanying them.
\nSecurity has been beefed up at the judicial complex and the NAB office ahead of the PTI chief\u2019s arrival and a heavy contingent of police is deployed there to deal with any untoward incident.
