{"id":5902,"date":"2023-04-09T17:19:24","date_gmt":"2023-04-09T17:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=5902"},"modified":"2023-04-09T17:19:24","modified_gmt":"2023-04-09T17:19:24","slug":"at-least-44-killed-in-burkina-faso-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=5902","title":{"rendered":"At least 44 killed in Burkina Faso attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At least 44 civilians were killed in two separate attacks on villages in northern Burkina Faso.<br \/>\nAccording to international media reports, a local governor, Rodolphe Sorgho, blamed terrorists for the \u201cdespicable and barbaic\u201d attacks, without naming a specific group.<br \/>\nIn a statement Sorgho gave his \u201csincere condolences to the grieving families and wishes a rapid recovery to the wounded.\u201d<br \/>\nFew other details were available about the incidents, but a resident of one of the villages told reporters \u201ca large number of terrorists\u201d attacked late on Thursday, with gunfire sounding throughout the night.<br \/>\nBurkina Faso is one of the world\u2019s poorest counties and has become the epicenter of violence carried out by militants.<br \/>\nThe violence began in neighboring Mali in 2012 but has since spread across the arid expanse of the Sahel region south of the Sahara Desert.<br \/>\nLarge areas of the north and east of Burkina Faso have become ungovernable since 2018. Millions have fled their homes, fearing further raids by gunmen who frequently descend on rural communities on motorbikes.
