President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have emphasized the need to empower women for development of society and called for increasing participation of women in all walks of life.
\nInternational Women’s Day is being celebrated across the world including Pakistan today to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
\nThe theme of this year’s day is DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.
\nA number of functions and events will be organized in connection with the day.
\nPresident Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have emphasized the need to empower women for development of society.
\nIn their separate messages on International Women’s Day, they called for increasing participation of women in all walks of life.
\nPresident Dr Arif Alvi said Pakistan needs to increase women’s access to technology and digital literacy programs, especially in far-flung areas.
\nHe said besides providing them access to internet services, laptops and other digital technologies, we should encourage more women to pursue careers in STEM fields.
\nDr Arif Alvi said it is essential to provide resources and support to women entrepreneurs and business owners to make them financially independent.
\nPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, said International Women’s Day is the day to recognize the key role of women in society and their contribution to the evolution of human civilization.
\nHe said history witnesses that the development of human society is not possible without the constructive role of women.
\nShehbaz Sharif said our religion Islam granted equal rights to women 14 hundred years ago.
