Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said that Pakistan is a country of democratic people but attacks have been carried out on Pakistan’s constitution ever since its formation.
\nAddressing a ceremony in Karachi, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman said the Sindh Assembly was the first to adopt the Pakistan resolution whereas the 1973 Constitution was given by former prime minister and PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
\nHe said that it was because of the Constitution that the people have the right to vote but, ever since its inception, there have been efforts to rob people of it, adding that the Constitution had to go through many tough tests.
\nBilawal said that the Constitution is a contract between the state and its citizens, but added that if we keep fighting amongst ourselves, then others would continue to benefit form the situation.
\n“We can only decide who will rule through the people’s vote,” he said.
\nHe further said that when former dictator and army chief General (retd) Pervaiz Musharraf sabotaged the Constitution, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto herself reached out her own political opponents to build consensus on the Charter of Democracy.
\nEarlier on Sunday, the foreign minister strongly condemned a terrorist bombing in Barkhan district of Balochistan that claimed at least four lives and left 12 others injured.
\nAccording to a press statement, the PPP chairman said Pakistan was determined to root out those who target innocent citizens.
\n\u201cTerrorists have no religion or nation. They are brutal beasts in human form,\u201d he said.
\nBilawal expressed his heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the families of the citizens martyred in the terrorist attack and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
