Azerbaijan and Armenia have reported new border clashes that left an unknown number of Azerbaijani troops dead.
\nAccording to international media, the fighting, which broke out early on Tuesday, marks the latest flare-up between the arch foes, who fought a war in 2020 over the contested Nagorno-Karabakh region.
\nEach side blamed the other for the fighting.
\nIn a statement, Armenia\u2019s defence ministry said Azerbaijan launched \u201cintensive shelling\u201d against Armenian military positions in the direction of the cities of Goris, Sok, and Jermuk at 00:05am (20:05 GMT) on Tuesday. Azerbaijani troops used drones, as well as \u201cartillery and large-calibre firearms,\u201d it said.
\n\u201cArmenia\u2019s armed forces have launched a proportionate response,\u201d it added.
\nBut Azerbaijan\u2019s defence ministry accused Armenia of \u201clarge-scale subversive acts\u201d near the districts of Dashkesan, Kelbajar and Lachin on the border, adding that its army positions \u201ccame under fire, including from trench mortars\u201d.
\n\u201cThere are losses among [Azerbaijani] servicemen,\u201d it said, without giving figures.
