President Arif Alvi has urged the prime minister and chief justice of Pakistan to alleviate the grievances of PTI leader Murad Saeed, who has complained about receiving life threats and alleged human rights violations on part of the federal government.
\nIn separate letters, the president asked PM Shehbaz and CJP Umar Ata Bandial to look into the issues raised by Saeed.
\nThe letters mention a five-page letter, dated Dec 12, sent by former minister for communications Murad Saeed requesting the president to take notice of \u201cbrazen illegalities\u201d and \u201cgross human rights violations\u201d by the federal government.
\nPresident Alvi referred to the serious allegations levelled by the parliamentarian, which inter alia included: \u201cfake, bogus, frivolous FIR was registered against him for the incident that occurred at Masjid-e-Nabvi, Madina Sharif, on May 1, 2022, despite the fact that he was in Pakistan.\u201d
\nMultiple FIRs were registered against him on the same charges all over Pakistan, it said, adding that the aforementioned actions were against the fundamental rights enshrined under Articles 9 (security of person), 13 (protection against double punishment and self incrimination), and 14 (inviolability of dignity of man, etc) of the Constitution.
\nSaeed also raised the issue of the deteriorating law and order situation in Malakand, Swat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. \u201cSubsequently, he was threatened with dire consequences and was compelled to leave Swat, along with his family.\u201d
\nThe President pointed out that Article 15 (freedom of movement, etc) of the Constitution \u201cprovides that every citizen shall have the right to remain in, and, subject to any reasonable restriction imposed by law in the public interest, enter and move freely throughout Pakistan and to reside and settle in any part thereof\u201d.
\nThe PTI leader had also alleged that on August 18, 2022, the privacy of his home was violated and despite his repeated requests and court\u2019s order, FIR \u201chas not yet been registered\u201d by the Islamabad Police. Moreover, he alleged that he was followed and harassed with serious life threats.
