State Department Spokesperson Ned Price has reiterated President Joe Biden\u2019s pledge of taking action \u201cin a way that protects our interests\u201d if the US sees \u201cinternational terrorists regrouping in Afghanistan\u201d.
\nThe statement came on Wednesday in response to a question asked during a press briefing about the rise of violence in Afghanistan and the Taliban\u2019s failure to not provide \u201csafe havens\u201d to terrorist groups \u2014 including the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, al-Qaeda, the\u00a0Daesh and others.
\nPrice said that the Afghan Taliban had been \u201ceither unable or unwilling to live up to the commitments that they\u2019ve made in a number of areas\u201d and that the US\u2019 broader goal was to make sure that \u201cterrorists and others aren\u2019t able to use Afghanistan as a launch pad for attacks on Pakistan\u201d.
\nHe also mentioned the killing of the al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri by a US strike in August to prove the US\u2019 demonstration of its capabilities to act against terrorists.
\nStating that the US values its \u201cbilateral relationship\u201d with Pakistan, Price said that the US is determined to work with its partners in the region, including Pakistan.
