The Lahore High Court\u2019s (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Wednesday accepted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Asad Umar\u2019s unconditional apology in contempt of court case against his ‘anti-judiciary speech’ during the party\u2019s long march.
\nJustice Jawad Hassan presided over the case against the PTI leader where a script of Umar’s speech was presented to the court and the reply to the contempt notice sent to him on Monday was also submitted.
\nDuring the hearing, Umar said that he unconditionally apologises for what he had said and maintained that he doesn’t want to pursue the case.
\nOn this, the court said that it was good that the PTI leader ended the matter by apologising for his speech.
\nIn his remarks, Additional Attorney General Sajid Tanoli said that an attempt was made to “scandalise” the judiciary and thus, action should be taken.
\nHowever, that the court stated that it was satisfied with Umar\u2019s unconditional apology.
\nMeanwhile, the court also indicated dealing with the issue of road closures, which took place in the capital ahead of PTI\u2019s long march.
\nJustice Hassan said that the matter of road closures during the march is now over as the rally ended peacefully. “The job of the court was to prevent any illegal action,” he added.
\nThe judge, however, stated that he will issue a formal decision regarding road closures that will become a guideline for the future.
\n“A detailed decision will be issued on all road closure petitions and they will be disposed of with the same decision,” he informed.
