{"id":3379,"date":"2022-12-05T14:09:02","date_gmt":"2022-12-05T14:09:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=3379"},"modified":"2022-12-05T14:09:02","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T14:09:02","slug":"ahsan-iqbal-announces-new-strategy-as-govt-decides-to-shut-down-flood-response-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=3379","title":{"rendered":"Ahsan Iqbal announces \u2018new strategy\u2019 as govt decides to shut down flood response center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal announced on Monday that the government had decided to close the National Flood Response and Coordination Centre (NFRCC) and a \u201cnew format\u201d would be implemented to continue the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.<br \/>\nSpeaking at a ceremony held at the National Flood Response Center in Islamabad, Iqbal said that the NFRCC was \u201ccreated with a special aim\u201d and would be now closing \u201cafter completing its mission\u201d.<br \/>\nThe minister said that the government will continue to combat the post-flood challenge \u201cin a new format, with a new institutional setting, and will keep supervising and supporting the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts \u2014together with the provinces and related authorities\u201d.<br \/>\nThe NFRCC was created by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in August to provide a proper institutional response to the calamity and comprised of federal ministers, representatives of armed forces, chief ministers and experts.<br \/>\nAccording to Shehbaz, its aim was to \u201cserve as a bridge between disaster management authorities, donors, and government institutions\u201d.<br \/>\nNFRCC collected the latest data on flood devastation and oversaw rescue and relief work.<br \/>\nSpeaking to media persons today, Iqbal said: \u201cThe government has drafted a 4RF (Resilient, Recovery, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation) strategy or framework \u2014 which we will present in the form of a conference in front of the international community \u2014 to make Pakistan climate-resilient.\u201d<br \/>\nHe recalled that the flood catastrophe this year had caused damages worth US$30 billion to the country which was \u201ca loss equivalent to 10 per cent of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) for an economy like ours\u201d.<br \/>\nThe minister added that Pakistan was among the countries most vulnerable to climate change and for this \u201cwe are also taking the help of the international community\u201d.<br \/>\nTalking about the COP27 climate conference, Iqbal said that the acknowledgment of the damage and loss terms on an international level was a huge success.<br \/>\nHe lauded the prime minister, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, and Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman for \u201cpresenting the case on an international level in front of the leaders\u201d.<br \/>\nHe also thanked the national coordinator of the NFRCC, his team, officers, the Army, the Air Force, the Navy, and the federal government for putting in their efforts to fulfill the tasks.<br \/>\nThe minister further urged the people of Pakistan to \u201cplay their role\u201d and help provide aid to the flood-affected people who are in dire need of resources amidst winter.<br \/>\n\u201cIf you can put on a warm blanket on someone;
