The federal government has initiated an accountability process to review the ministries and divisions’ performance after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi\u2019s speech sparked debate over the federal government\u2019s overall performance. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a comprehensive performance review of all federal ministries and divisions, paving the way for a likely reshuffle of the federal cabinet as the government launches an internal accountability process. According to government sources, the PM Office has formally directed all federal ministries and divisions to submit detailed performance reports on a prescribed format, covering their achievements and key initiatives from February 2024 to the present. The ministries have been instructed to provide detailed accounts of their performance against their core mandates, including progress on policy objectives, governance reforms, and measures taken to improve public service delivery. The review will cover 18 ministries dealing with economic and financial affairs, 14 ministries responsible for law, security and administrative matters, and nine ministries overseeing social services, health and education. According to the official directive, ministries must present measurable outcomes of governance initiatives, along with details of completed projects, results achieved and their completion dates. They have also been asked to submit comprehensive information on all pending projects, reasons for delays, implementation challenges, and corrective measures undertaken. Each ministry is required to report on administrative reforms, cost-saving measures and initiatives aimed at improving institutional efficiency. The PM Office has made it mandatory for ministries to support every performance claim with documentary evidence or other verifiable proof, warning that unsupported claims and incomplete reports will not be accepted. The performance evaluation will also examine the utilisation of development funds and assess the outcomes of public sector projects. In addition, the review will include the performance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority and the Planning Commission, implementation of the Annual Development Programme (ADP), the impact of economic policies, improvements in the national census and statistical system, as well as the results of public-private partnership initiatives and the PM Office’s special programmes.
