President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the people and armed forces of Pakistan remain ever ready to defend the motherland in the face of any challenge. He was addressing a special ceremony at Pakistan Monument in Islamabad this evening to commemorate the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. He said Pakistan’s calibrated yet befitting response to India’s unprovoked aggression in May last year has become a defining chapter of world history. He said our armed forces made us proud and raised the national dignity internationally. The President said Pakistan’s victory in Marka-e-Haq was not confined to military achievements, but also reflected unity and harmony of the entire nation. Speaking about Pakistan’s recent mediatory role in Iran-US war, the President said Pakistan has played an internationally acknowledged positive role in preventing the world from a large conflict. On terrorism, he said Indian sponsored terrorism through Afghanistan in Pakistan must end, and Afghanistan must not allow its soil to be used against Pakistan. Reaffirming Pakistan’s unflinching support to people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the President emphasized early resolution of Kashmir dispute for lasting peace in the region. He also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support to the oppressed Palestinian people in their just right to have an independent state with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital. Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf are also gracing the occasion.
