Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi has convened a full-court meeting of the Supreme Court (SC) to discuss the 27th constitutional Amendment.\u00a0It is reminded here that three judges of the apex court have already written letters to the CJP, calling for the formation of a full-court on the amendment. The meeting will be held before the Friday prayers. SHC judge writes to CJP Sindh High Court (SHC) judge Justice Salahuddin Panhwar has also written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi, calling for a full-court to hear the 27th Amendment case, saying it was necessary to prevent the public trust in the judiciary from eroding. In his letter, the judge has said that he is writing the letter not in protest, but considering it a duty. \u201cPlease convene a full-court meeting and review the amendment clause by clause.\u201d The judge has also requested that the Law and Justice Commission and Judicial Policymaking Committee be also consulted on the matter. Justice Panhwar has argued that the 27th Amendment can disturb the balance of power. \u201cTherefore, the constitution demands that the SC intervenes,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cWe will be remembered for our courage to take decisions.\u201d The judge went on to say that the judges must make sure that the rule of law should not be merely on papers, but it must also be seen. \u201cA time comes when silence is not a precaution, but a surrender,\u201d he opined. He was of the view that in his view the amendment was bound to hit the pillars on which the edifice of the judiciary stood.
