In a social media message following his meeting with the Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar, on the sidelines of the 69th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Grossi lauded Pakistan\u2019s achievements in expanding its civil nuclear energy capacity. \u00a0He noted that Pakistan\u2019s nuclear power programme is advancing \u201cat a good pace,\u201d particularly highlighting the ongoing construction of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 (C-5). The IAEA chief recalled personally witnessing the first concrete pouring for C-5 in February 2025, describing it as a major milestone in Pakistan\u2019s pursuit of clean and sustainable energy to enhance national energy security. During their discussions, the IAEA Director General and PAEC Chairman reviewed Pakistan\u2019s cooperation under several Agency-led initiatives. These included Atoms4Food, aimed at using nuclear technology to boost agricultural productivity, food safety, and pest control, and Rays of Hope, which focuses on expanding access to nuclear medicine and radiotherapy for cancer treatment in the Asia-Pacific region. \u00a0Grossi expressed appreciation for Pakistan\u2019s active engagement in these programmes, particularly in training, capacity-building, and the application of nuclear knowledge for socio-economic development. He emphasized that Pakistan continues to serve as an important partner in promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s commitment to peaceful nuclear applications, stressing that the country\u2019s nuclear power plants operate under the highest international safety standards while significantly contributing to the national energy mix by providing reliable, low-carbon electricity. He underlined that PAEC\u2019s projects are closely aligned with the IAEA\u2019s vision of leveraging nuclear technology for peace, health, and prosperity.
