Just hours after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) alleged late Thursday that plainclothes men had \u201cabducted\u201d Shahrez Khan the son of Aleema Khanum, sister of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan Lahore police confirmed his arrest in a case linked to the May 9 incidents. Earlier, police officials said they had no information about Shahrez\u2019s whereabouts, adding that they could only proceed once a formal complaint was lodged. PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), condemned the development, stating: \u201cDuring a raid, men in plain clothes abducted Aleema Khan\u2019s son from her home. We strongly condemn this brutality and demand his immediate and safe return.\u201d From PTI\u2019s official X account, the party alleged that Shahrez was forcibly taken during a raid on Aleema\u2019s residence, where family members were harassed and household staff assaulted. The party called the incident \u201cfascism\u201d and demanded Shahrez\u2019s immediate release. In a detailed statement, PTI\u2019s Central Information Department termed the episode \u201cthe peak of oppression and lawlessness,\u201d claiming Shahrez was taken from his bedroom after doors were broken, tortured in front of his two children, and that domestic staff were also subjected to violence. The statement further alleged that Shahrez was stopped from traveling with his wife at Lahore Airport the previous day and \u201cillegally offloaded,\u201d calling it a blatant violation of basic human rights. Several PTI leaders strongly condemned the incident. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur called the alleged abduction \u201cdespicable,\u201d while former opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan described the act as cowardly and said such measures only proved the strength of Imran Khan, his family, and PTI supporters.
