The Supreme Court ordered Monday to register the First Information Report (FIR) of the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in Waziriabad within 24 hours otherwise the court will take the suo motu notice.
\nDuring the hearing of the contempt of court case against Imran, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked, \u201cUnder the criminal justice system, the police can register the FIR itself. It\u2019s been more than 90 hours but an FIR has not been registered.\u201d
\nThe CJP directed the Punjab IG Faisal Shahkar: \u201c Register an FIR within 24 hours otherwise we will take the suo motu notice.\u201c
\nPunjab IG Shahkar told the court that the provincial government was not allowing him to register the FIR on the incident.
\nThe PTI chief, who was leading the party\u2019s long march, was injured during a gun attack at a protest gathering in Punjab\u2019s Wazirabad on November 3. A PTI supporter, Muazzam Nawaz, was killed in the incident while 14 others, including Imran, were wounded.
\nThe matter was raised at the hearing of a contempt plea filed by the interior ministry against Imran for allegedly flouting a May 25 order of the apex court that defined the limits for the party\u2019s \u2018Azadi March\u2019 gathering in Islamabad at the time.
\nDuring the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial warned of taking suo motu notice if the FIR of the attack was not registered.
