Highlighting the 75-year-long friendship between Pakistan and China, she stated that bilateral relations have now entered a new era of development. \u201cParliamentary diplomacy has further strengthened the development cooperation between both nations,\u201d she added. \u201cDevelopment is a basic right of every individual, not the privilege of a particular class,\u201d Romina emphasized. She further stated that GDI has emerged as a global voice for women representatives from the Global South. Romina also appreciated China&#8217;s support in projects ranging from CPEC to the Solar Parliament, noting that Chinese assistance has helped strengthen key institutions in Pakistan. She announced that under the GDI framework, education, healthcare, digital access, and climate justice will be key areas of focus in Pakistan. GDI will be integrated into parliamentary activities, academic institutions, and civil society engagement across the country. Speaking at the curtain-raiser ceremony of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) Group, the minister termed it an honour to address a platform that embodies a new era of international cooperation and inclusive progress. He highlighted Pakistan\u2019s strategic advantage, stating, \u201cWith over 1,000 kilometers of coastline and key ports like Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar, Pakistan stands as a natural hub for trade and energy corridors.\u201d The minister noted that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has already laid a solid foundation, transforming Gwadar into a vital economic link connecting China with the Arabian Sea. \u201cGDI builds upon this progress, complementing our national goals of infrastructure modernization, environmental resilience, and equitable development, particularly for underserved coastal communities such as Ormara and Pasni,\u201d he emphasized. Junaid Anwar Chaudhry outlined Pakistan\u2019s maritime ambitions under the GDI framework, which include digitizing and greening port operations, developing sustainable ocean industries, and enhancing logistics connectivity from coast to hinterland. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the dividends of development reach marginalized populations, adding that maritime advancement is critical to social harmony by offering alternatives to poverty and extremism.
