Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday called on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Indian-held Kashmir and ensure Kashmiris\u2019 right to self-determination during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Briefing the Secretary-General on the situation in Indian-held Kashmir, the premier underscored Pakistan\u2019s serious concerns over India\u2019s actions in the valley and stressed the need to resolve the dispute to ensure lasting peace and stability in South Asia, Radio Pakistan reported. \u201cWe discussed the need for urgent action to resolve the Jammu & Kashmir Dispute; called for [an] immediate end to Israel\u2019s ongoing offensive in Gaza and Lebanon; and highlighted the need to combat Islamophobia,\u201d the prime minister wrote on X. According to Radio Pakistan, UN Secretary-General Guterres thanked the PM for Pakistan\u2019s active engagement at the United Nations, as well as for its role towards international peace and security through its UN peacekeeping force. \u2018Mutually beneficial cooperation\u2019 PM Shehbaz and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday agreed to further strengthen \u201cmutually beneficial cooperation\u201d between their countries in various areas, including trade and security, the Foreign Office said. In a press release issued today, the FO said PM Shehbaz and Erdogan met each other in New York on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. \u201cBoth leaders discussed the bilateral matters and agreed to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, investment, defence and security domains,\u201d the statement said. \u201cThey assessed preparations for the upcoming 7th session of the Pakistan-Turkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) to be held in Islamabad soon,\u201d it added. According to the FO, the two leaders also called for an \u201cimmediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end of hostilities\u201d as they discussed \u201cregional and global developments, especially the ongoing genocide and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza\u201d. The prime minister appreciated Turkiye\u2019s \u201cfirm and consistent support for the oppressed people\u201d of India-occupied Kashmir. During the meeting, the FO said, President Erdogan \u201cexpressed his admiration for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s economic policies, which have played a crucial role in stabilising Pakistan\u2019s economy and commended the prime minister for his leadership and commitment to economic reform\u201d. President Erdogan \u201ctook the opportunity to extend his heartfelt birthday wishes\u201d to PM Shehbaz, the statement added. Meanwhile, in a post on X, PM Shehbaz said he was honoured to meet Erdogan, calling him his \u201cdear brother and a great friend of Pakistan\u201d. \u201cWe assured each other of our consistent and continued support on core interests, and also discussed regional developments, especially the situation in Gaza,\u201d the premier said. \u201cThank you Mr. President, for your warm wishes on my birthday and your appreciation of our economic reform agenda. I look forward to working with you to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between our two countries,\u201d he added. Last month, after enforcing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), a high-level Turkish business delegation visited Pakistan to explore investment opportunities and remove barriers to increasing bilateral investment.
