{"id":1860,"date":"2022-10-18T08:11:12","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T08:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=1860"},"modified":"2022-10-18T08:11:12","modified_gmt":"2022-10-18T08:11:12","slug":"supreme-court-acquits-shahrukh-jatoi-in-shahzeb-murder-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=1860","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court acquits Shahrukh Jatoi in Shahzeb murder case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted Shahrukh Jatoi as well as his accomplices in the Shahzeb Khan murder case.<br \/>\nA three-judge bench, headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan, heard the case.<br \/>\nAn Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had awarded the death penalty to Jatoi and his accomplice Siraj Ali Talpur for Shahzeb\u2019s murder in 2012 following a petty dispute. Siraj\u2019s younger brother, Sajjad Ali Talpur, and domestic helper Ghulam Murtaza Lashari had been handed life sentences.<br \/>\nA couple of months after the sentence was passed, however, Shahzeb\u2019s parents had issued a formal pardon for the convicts, approved by the Sindh High Court (SHC).<br \/>\nDespite the pardon, however, the death penalty had been upheld because of the addition of terrorism charges to the case up until the SHC dropped the charges and ordered a retrial in the case.<br \/>\nThe SHC, while hearing appeals against the conviction, had later commuted the death sentences into life imprisonment.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted Shahrukh Jatoi as well as his accomplices in the Shahzeb Khan murder case.
