{"id":1664,"date":"2022-10-11T14:18:42","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T14:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=1664"},"modified":"2022-10-11T14:18:42","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T14:18:42","slug":"uber-app-ceases-operations-in-5-key-cities-including-karachi-and-islamabad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diplomacypakistan.com\/?p=1664","title":{"rendered":"Uber app ceases operations in 5 key cities, including Karachi and Islamabad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ride-hailing app Uber on Tuesday announced that its has ceased operating its app in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar and Islamabad.<br \/>\n\u201cUber remains committed to Pakistan \u2014 we will continue to serve these five cities with our subsidiary brand Careem and continue to operate the Uber app in Lahore,\u201d the company said in a statement posted on its website.<br \/>\nThe company said that it will continue to offer its services in Lahore with new product launches to \u201csupport earners during these difficult times\u201d.<br \/>\nIt said it would communicate with its riders and partners in the five cities on how to use and smoothly transition to Careem.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen we acquired Careem, it was always our belief that the two companies could come together to complement each other\u2019s strengths and better serve the region through tailored experiences,\u201d the statement added.<br \/>\nThe company said it was aware this was a \u201cdifficult time\u201d for its teams, which had \u201cworked incredibly hard to build this business over the past few years\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cWe greatly appreciate everyone\u2019s contributions and our priority is to minimise the impact on our employees, drivers, riders, and Hero partners who use the Uber app during this change in Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan and Peshawar,\u201d the statement reads.<br \/>\nUber had completed its acquisition of rival Careem in 2020 for $3.1 billion.
