Iran begins navy drill off Strait of Hormuz as US newly wary
Iran’s navy has begun an annual drill close to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, its first main train because the inauguration of United States (US) President Donald Trump.

Iranian state tv quoted navy chief Admiral Habibollah Sayyari on Sunday as saying the manoeuvre will cowl an space of two million sq. kilometres within the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean close to the strait.

Practically a 3rd of all oil traded by sea passes by way of the strait and it has been the scene of earlier confrontations between the US and Iran.

However the drill doesn’t contain Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard, a paramilitary power the US Navy usually criticises for harassing its vessels.
