Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski traveled to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Afghanistan from April 2 – 10. In Sri Lanka, he met with senior authorities representatives to debate human rights and strengthening democracy, transparency, and accountability. He additionally met with representatives from human rights, non secular, and civil society organizations.
Assistant Secretary Malinowski then traveled to Pakistan to fulfill with authorities and army officers to debate human rights, rule of regulation, and media security and safety points. There, he additionally met with human rights and rule of regulation consultants, civil society leaders, journalists, and media advocates.
In Afghanistan, he met with authorities officers and civil society representatives to debate the significance of defending and advancing features in human rights—particularly ladies’s rights—democracy, constructing accountable governance and safety establishments, and guaranteeing security and safety for journalists and media actors.
